Pangea ~ from ancient greek: Pan meaning ENTIRE and Gaia meaning EARTH, was or is (according to Wikipedia) the name given to the supercontinent that existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras about 250 million years ago, before each of the component continents were separated into their current configuration.
Along the way as human beings have grown as a species we have stretched and imagined, come to fear and fight each other, been inspired and loved by each other. One of these days we're going to notice that the lines that we have cut crisscrossed across this planet were not useful to us. That they have only served to divide and keep our humanity separated. One of these days we'll wake up to the fact that we are of this earth and that we are connected to everything and everyone. That our need to understand each other, know each other, see each other's humanity, clearly will be ever so important. So that we can never again rationalize each other's destruction, so that we can never again take our existence and relationships to life on earth for granted. That day is coming soon. And many of us are trying to find our way back to Pangea - a united whole earth. We need not go back to move forward - only hold the lessons and visions of that which we have learned from the past to inform and reinvent, re-vision, and reassess the premises upon which we make our future choices.
Many soulful, artistic, and compassionate people all over the planet have for decades and centuries sought the tools for uniting and speaking to the soul of humanity. What they all hold in common is a creative vision of the future. Whether through words, rhythm, rhyme or reason, paint, pictures, sculpture, bridge building or teaching - we've grown and walked amidst millions of visionaries and projects that have changed the way we perceive life on earth.
In the words of Pangea Day organizers: In a world where people are often divided by borders, differences and conflict, it's easy to lose sight of what we all have in common. Pangea Day {as a project} seeks to overcome that - to help people see themselves in others through the power of film.
On May 10, 2008 -- Pangea Day -- sites in New York City, Rio, London, Dharamsala, Cairo, Jerusalem, and Kigali will be videoconferenced live to the world in a 4-hour program of powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music.
